Shoutcast app Stream Live Radio

Users of Winamp are probably already familiar with the Shoutcast radio directory. This online list gives you more than 25,000 different radio stations to listen to where you'll probably find a suitable channel.

A considerable time ago there was already an initiative that made use of this directory, but now ShoutCast has released an own (free) application for the iPhone and Android. When you start the application a list of the various music categories Shoutcast offers is displayed. These range from Alternative to Country to Blues and New Age. Plenty to find for all kind of misic lovers.

App

When you choose a particular category you will see all the stations that fall within this genre. You see how many listeners are currently listening to the station, what song is currently playing and also the broadcast bitrate of the station. This is especially important if you want to listen for example through GPRS. Click on the station, and after a short buffering it starts to play. You see the name of the station and the track currently being played. If you like the station, you can add it to your favorites by right clicking on the star.

As said, with Shoutcast Radio it's possible to listen to online radio via GPRS. Select the stations which have a maximum bitrate of 56K. When listening over GPRS stations played with that bitrate play without a hitch, and the quality remains still good. Furthermore you can find in the app your list of favorites and which stations you have listened to recently. You can also search through all stations, very useful when a genre is not directly displayed in the main categories.

Android

The Dutch provider Sublimity Mobile Software has now released an application that is the "ultimate streaming radio player" for Android. With the free demo version of Live Audio Stream you can listen up to 90 seconds for each station. The full version is on sale for € 3.99 (or $ 4.99 in the U.S.). Watching the options,  Live Audio Stream offers many options such as searching for lyrics and YouTube videos while you listen to the music.
